Lineage. Loosely defined as descent from ancestors or having a pedigree. In the year 1820 Walker’s Kilmarnock Whisky was born and started the linage that has become the best selling blended Scotch in the world. Period. In the planetary orbit of whiskey, single malts are considered to be at the top of the pecking order and most will agree that is how it should. Names such as Ardbeg, Laphroaig and Maccallan are always on that list in a discussion, but invariably (and, incorrectly) somebody will toss out the name Johnnie Walker on the table like it’s the Queen in spades hoping it will “walk”. Yes knowledgeable people may roll their eyes and slowly turn back to their glasses after that, but what makes the Walker name such an easy name to drop?
